If you own a Canon PowerShot S-series digital camera and it starts showing a black screen and taking black pictures, then you have to try this fix. The fix was posted to the Fixya site, and it works great (note: it take numerous attempts to get the results, and the reply comments contain more helpful information, but it is well worth it) Canon S2 IS black screen. It appears that this issue is a known issue (as there are several forums regarding this particular problem), and a review of Canon’s website (as of July 2013) does not list the S-series as being available anymore. Thus, this issue is only related to older models, but I do think it will work for any make or model of camera exhibiting the same issue.
Update: Though the fix described above allowed me to take pictures again with the camera, this only worked for indoor pictures. When I took pictures outside, the pictures were white-washed. Thus, this fix was not entirely successful. 🙁
